Today we went on a day trip to Chand Baori, in the village of Abhaneri.
From Jaipur it’s less than a 2 hour drive on the road to Agra.
Chand Baori is a stepwell built in the 800s AD, and it’s purpose was to keep water from the rain, because Rajasthan is a very arid place. In total, there are 3500 steps in 13 stories, it’s one of the deepest stepwells in India, around 30m. The stepwell was also a place for social gatherings and events.
It’s a very quick trip, it takes less than 30min to visit the whole place, but it’s a very interisting architecture, and definitely worth the visit. I love visiting hidden treasures in remote places.
It was also a set for the movies The Fall, and The Dark Knight Rises.
