A matter of perspective

Inside a restaurant in Bali one day, we suddenly saw this map:

It may seem very ordinary to some people, but this just blew my mind. Growing up in Brazil, all of the maps I’ve seen in my life looked much more like this:

To me, Asia has always been on the other side of the world, as far as I could go. Then looking at that map in Bali I realized that to them, I’m the one living on the edge. Literally. Brazil is on the right edge, where there is nothing left to be seen or shown. And then I wondered…isn’t everything just a matter of perspective? Who is right or wrong, who lives near or far, who has the “right” religion, which country is better, summer or winter, hot or cold. After all, remember that once it was thought that the Earth was a square.

Life is not an exact science. It’s a twirled path with many ups and downs, choices and perspectives to be seen. It’s only up to you and me to choose to be open to these new ways to see and understand the world. Next time you have an argument, try to see the other side, it’s just a matter of perspective, of different points of view.

That being said, let’s have some fun seeing the world through different perspectives, shall we?
